23 Strong is a NASW-supported student social worker organization with representatives throughout the State of California
UPDATE (4/11/20): The 23 Strong Representative role empowers a student representative from Dominguez Hills to meet with governing members of the NASW-CA (Becca Gonzales, Jan Lee). Initially, the 23 Strong role was created to bring together California social work students for Lobby Day activities, and building student power (voice, opportunity, and action), but in light of COVID-19 23 Strong has become the conduit that the NASW uses to assess the social work student community. The overarching goal of 23 Strong is to bring together the 23 (now 24) California universities that offer Schools of Social Work (BSW and MSW).
The 23 Strong representative attends bi-monthly meetings. Current ACTIVE Member schools: Fresno State, Dominguez Hills, APU, USC, UCLA, and CSU San Marcos. If you are interested in macro social work, i.e.: coalition building, discussing larger social issues that affect students, and student governance, this may be a role for you. The current president is: James Borunda, Fresno State. The previous president and founding member is now, I believe, a District Assistant Director with NASW. I’d like to extend an opportunity to invite interested members to join me on 23 Strong meetings calls over the summer to learn more. Contact: jonathanrfarrellmsw@gmail.com
