In light of the worldwide COVID-19 quarantine, many of us were unable to attend our in-person internships for close to the remainder of the academic calendar.
Due to the unknown length of time MSW students, Rancho San Pedro youth residents, employees of HACLA and Century Housing, LANI, and our other One San Pedro Alliance members would be subject to a stay-in-place quarantine, and unable to participate in in-person meetings, to ensure our youth-led legacy project planning committee and the promotion of a new "Youth Advisory Council" would continue after my internship ended, I advocated for/and authored a transition plan and new role of a youth-peer led, paid, part-time position to be held by One San Pedro after the conclusion of my internship, thus securing "legacy."
The Associate Director, Youth Development and Engagement, One San Pedro is a peer-led position created to promote, support, and empower youth during the development of youth-led initiatives, while affording youth an active voice (actual power) during the development of the Youth Advisory Council. It was important that this position be offered to "...an area youth leader, or any qualified, consistent local youth-peer representative within working age who currently resides or has resided in subsidized housing should hold this role under the direct mentorship of a One San Pedro/HACLA staff member."
